On the 14th of December 2022, the Nuneaton Nepalese community were invited to their local Fire Station and were given a thorough and informative presentation by the station commander, Paul Whittaker. It was a great oppurtunity to learn about the roles and day to day lives of the hard working fire officers. There was also a brief exchange of histories and lots of engagement from both parties, a brilliant example of two communties learning and working with each other. Here is the article psoted on the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service Facebook page:
We were delighted to recently welcome members of our Nepalese community to Nuneaton Fire Station. We had some brilliant discussions about our service and the history of the Nepalese community in Nuneaton. This was a great example of how we can learn from each other, improving our communication and the mutual support between residents and our service.
Speaking of the visit, Station Commander Paul Whittaker said, “It was a fantastic opportunity to meet members of our Nepalese community and learn more about their history. I would like to thank Bhim Saru for a very interesting presentation. What a fantastic learning opportunity enjoyed by all.”
Bhim Saru, Senior VP British Gurkha Veterans Association, said, “Station Commander Paul was wonderful and gave a really nice briefing about the services they provide for the community in the local area and sometimes across the county. Other crew members were also really good, and I must say we learnt a lot from them. I hope they learnt something about us too.
“Once again thank you and we hope to work with you again in the future.”
